Happy Thursday, WRMS Families!!!

It's been a great week to be a Wildcat!  While walking my dogs this morning, I passed a house that has the lights that make the house look like it has giant cat eyes looking at you and blinking. That kicked off my day with a giggle and the realization that October is here!  I will quickly share that my greatest moment of joy this week was a conversation with one of our coaches where he was sharing a story about how he hopes that he can be more like one of our girls in cross country. He shared about her level of dedication, drive, optimism, discipline, leadership by example, humility and willingness to step out of her comfort zone to grow. The list could go on, but I'll stop there. I predict her name will be on the gym wall of school records before her years as a student here are done.  We can all learn from our kids - every day.  Truly amazing...

The Eanes Education Foundation (EEF) kicks off their "We Fund Heroes" drive today!  For those of you who may be new to Eanes, EEF raises funds each year to literally fund staff salaries.  I believe this year we have 50+ Eanes employees who are with us as a result of funds raised by EEF.  For example, here at WRMS, we would have 6-7 fewer staff members than we have if not for the help of EEF.  Those of you who know me probably know that I hate to use the word "impossible".  If I were forced to provide the same experience our kids enjoy here at WRMS with 6-7 fewer people, I'm not positive I would be able to avoid use of that word.  We are so fortunate...  I encourage you to take a moment to CLICK HERE to learn more and to see what your family might be able to contribute as a meaningful donation.  No donation is too small.  To me, it is about participation.  In our newsletters throughout this month, you will get to learn more details about EEF, the teachers they fund and how to get involved.  Thank you - every one of you - for the support you provide in so many ways.

Now for a couple of information items:

  • Time to re-select for the 2nd 9-weeks!!!  Question:  If I have already indicated my preference a few times, do I really have to select again?  Answer:  Yes!!!  Please do take a moment to indicate your selection for the 2nd 9 weeks so that we KNOW for sure what you are choosing for your Wildcat - In Person or Remote???  You have already received information about how to do this from the district.  There will also be more reminders!!!  If you have any questions, let us know!  The more responses we have, the more smooth and clean the transition to the 2nd 9-weeks will be!
  • WRMS Equity Team - Keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks for information about how to be a part of our WRMS Equity Team.  I enjoyed a meeting with Dr. Gooden yesterday.  We will get the more formal DEI ball rolling here at WRMS soon!  I will share one of the most significant realizations (or learning) I have had so far.  The more we can all truly and deeply reflect to increase our own self-awareness, the more ready we will be to have potentially uncomfortable and challenging conversations.  This is true in all different realms of life - not just in the realm of social justice.

That is all for this week!  It should be another beautiful weekend.  Make the most of it with those you love, unplug, rest, watch football, watch the French Open, read a book and the list goes on.

Enjoy!

¡Disfrutar!
