MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DIANNE CARTER

Happy Friday, WRMS Families!!!

It has been a great week to be a Wildcat!  Honestly, I have had a heavy week, and it has still been a great week to be a Wildcat.  I have been forced to lean on other people to take care of things so that I can fulfill my responsibilities, and the beauty is that again and again people continue to step up when needed.  We have had administrative support from our district CIA department, which has been greatly appreciated.  Our kids have given me energy with their smiles and joyful, "Hi, Ms. Carter!"  I have watched teachers lean on each other.  Our booster club has jumped in like crazy to help us take care of our teachers.  I have had the joy of working collaboratively with so many different people.  It's hard at times….and I love it!  I realize I am lucky to be your school's principal.  I know there is division out there, and maybe even a little in our WRMS world.  However, what I have experienced overall is proof that we are all in this together.  Thank you.

  • SMART tags - Locate your Wildcat's SMART tag!!!  It will be even more important this year than in the past for both the bus AND lunch!  If your Wildcat is new to Eanes ISD, don't worry!  We already have one for them in the office.  If you have looked everywhere and cannot find it, please complete THIS FORM.  We will work on a new one.
  • In Person on Monday -  We will have 450 Wildcats here on Tuesday!  Everyone should have received an email last Friday (9/11) stating whether your child will be in person or remote on Monday.  I appreciate everyone's patience as we constantly work to adjust to an ever-changing world of demands.  To get more information about what things will look like, please CLICK HERE, and scroll down to videos.  You will see one from West Ridge!  This includes information about:  Self Screening, What to Bring, Masks, Arrival/Dismissal, Hallways/Passing Periods, Restrooms, Classrooms, Lunch Time, Health/Nurse Information, PE/Athletics, No New Instruction Days and Office Procedures
  • Early Release - 9/24/20!  Yes!  We will have our first Early Release on Thursday, 9/24/20.  So…  Your Wildcats will be finished with their day at 1:00pm whether in person or remote!
  • No "Drop Offs" - Please remember that one of the unfortunate parts of this COVID way of existing is that we cannot allow parents to drop off items for their child.  This includes iPads, books, lunch, etc.  I know this presents a challenge if something is forgotten, but this is our current reality.  If you or your child are like me, sometimes I place things literally where I will trip over them when trying to leave in the morning if I'm afraid I'll forget them.  It's all about strategies…  :-)

As usual, I'm confident that I am forgetting something.  Thank you all for your patience and for your feedback along the way.  In case you don't already know this, I truly appreciate knowing about things we can make better!  It is time to sign off.  I hope you all have an amazing weekend.

Enjoy!

¡y me encanta!

¡Disfrutar!

It's a GREAT Day to Be a Wildcat!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Good afternoon WRMS families,

This month the counselors are focusing on stress management and coping.

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day and we are sending students a presentation about the importance of having a trusted adult in their life.  A trusted adult is someone that students can talk to when they or someone they know is struggling emotionally. We are asking students to take a moment to think about who those trusted adults are in their lives.  Although we would love it if it were always a parent sometimes a trusted adult might be another guardian, a teacher, a school nurse, bus driver, your school counselor or private therapist, a relative, a doctor, a religious leader, or a friend's parent.

We want students to know that there are hotlines (24/7) they can call or text to communicate with adults who are certified to help people who are struggling.  Here is a hand out of numbers to call (students were provided this in Google Classrooms).

Encouraging students to reach out to adults when they need help is one way to encourage and promote mental and emotional health!

We are always here to help!

Sincerely,

The WRMS Counseling Team

Modeling and Teaching Relationships Skills in 2020

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!  Even though the start of this school year is unlike any we have had before, we begin like we always have by fostering, modeling, and teaching relationship skills.  This teaching happens in the classroom, whether remote or in person, as well as in the home.  As we navigate uncharted territory for the start of the 2020-21 school year, teaching relationship skills and connecting with family members, friends, and teachers may be more important now than ever before.
