January 9, 2020 MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DIANNE CARTER
Happy New Year, WRMS Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful break from the usual grind of "normal" days. We are back!!! I have to say that the first day after a break is always fun. The smiles on the faces of our kids are simply amazing. You would think that they hadn't seen some of their friends for years! Many also appeared to be pretty excited to be back in classes. It is also often fun to hear about the various injuries that took place over the break. Sometimes I suggest making up a different story… :-)
That's all for this week! I hope everyone has a chance to recover this weekend from our first week back. Rest...relax…
Enjoy!

8TH GRADE CAREER DAY
Our 8th graders have an amazing opportunity coming up TOMORROW, January 10th – it's time for the WRMS 8th Grade Career Day! We will have roughly thirty professionals on our campus to answer questions and introduce our current 8th grade students to their various jobs. This is a wonderful opportunity for your children to obtain information and learn about potential career paths they might like to explore as they begin their transition into high school. This event happens during school so all 8th graders will have the opportunity to participate.

Lately, seventh grader Nizhoni Begay has been able to detect monsters, like that man in the fancy suit who was in the bleachers at her basketball game. Turns out he's Mr. Charles, her dad's new boss at the oil and gas company, and he's alarmingly interested in Nizhoni and her brother, Mac, their Navajo heritage, and the legend of the Hero Twins. Nizhoni knows he's a threat, but her father won't believe her. When Dad disappears the next day, leaving behind a message that says "Run!", the siblings and Nizhoni's best friend, Davery, are thrust into a rescue mission. Timeless themes such as the importance of family and respect for the land resonate in this funny, fast-paced, and exciting quest adventure set in the American Southwest.
Order forms are available HERE, front office and the library. NEWS Empathy is a skill that can be taught, developed, and strengthened like a muscle. It is the ability to feel with and through another person creating an understanding that each person is a unique individual, and not a stereotype of race, gender, class, etc... “If you’ll get dressed, I’ll give you some candy”…”If you don’t get dressed, no TV today!”…Out of desperation, many parents have resorted to using threats or bribes to get children to behave. This workshop will help parents set consequences that teach instead of punish. SCHOOL CALENDAR WEST RIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
