Happy Thursday, Wildcat Families!

I hope you all had a rejuvenating Spring Break in one way or another whether it was a change of scenery, a change of pace, some rest, or all of the above. It is always exciting to see our kids come back from a break. I love watching those that haven't seen each other for a week and missed each other. I love listening to them talk about their various adventures from the break. These things brought many little moments of joy. One of my favorite moments this week was when one of our students came in the front office before 8:00am to ask if we would let her and a few others into a teacher's room so that they could decorate it for his birthday. I sweet is that!?! They were genuinely so excited to surprise him. I also loved my opportunity to chat with a few leaders in our choir program to give them a "pep talk" heading into UIL next week with their fearless leader still out (which is driving her crazy). Because of moments like this, I am reminded on a daily basis that we have pretty amazing kids.

Now a few information items:

  • Carol Reese! First, she will be taking some of our Destination Imagination kids to the Global Finals competition - incredible! Second, we all need to congratulate her. She is a finalist for one of the HEB Excellence in Education Awards!!! This is a huge honor, and we are so happy for her!!! Check out THIS ARTICLE.
  • Credit by Exam (CBE) and Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) - Just a heads up to watch for more detailed information in next week's newsletter AND an email through Skyward NEXT Friday (April 5th) about both CBE and IPC for next year. The testing date is at the end of April, so details are coming next week!
  • Car Traffic After School - Please help keep all of our Wildcats safe by using the lanes designated for cars rather than the bus lane or the actual parking lot. With the release of 933 kids, there are already MANY moving pieces. The more organized (and predictable) the movement of cars can be the better. Please honor the car lanes AND keep a really close watch out for pedestrians and other vehicles. Thanks!!!

I believe that wraps up the info items for now. We are in the home stretch! Believe it or not, before long your Wildcat will be one more grade along!!! I hope you all have a good weekend as you recover from going back to reality this week.

Congratulations to Mrs. Reese for being chosen as a 2019 H-E-B Excellence in Education Lifetime Achievement finalist for secondary teachers!!  She received a wonderful surprise on Tuesday morning which consisted of balloons, flowers, cookies and a few H-E-B partners including H-E-Buddy!  Mrs. Reese also received a check in the amount of $1,000 for herself and matching check for WRMS!  We couldn't be more honored to have such a special person as part of our WRMS team!

Also, check out this article featuring Mrs. Reese that was put out by the Statesman!

In 8th grade, students have the opportunity to enroll in an advanced science course called Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC). In order to qualify for this course, students must be enrolled in Algebra I (or a higher level math) in their 8th grade year, and pass an assessment covering the 8th grade science TEKS. For students eligible to enroll, directions on how to enroll your child will be emailed home via Skyward during the week of April 1st - 5th.

Math Credit by Exams (CBE)
Students can take a Credit by Exam to advance in certain levels of mathematics. Letters will be e-mailed home next week through Skyward to all students that qualify for the Credit by Exam. For students eligible to enroll, directions on how to enroll your child will be emailed home via Skyward during the week of April 1st - 5th. More information may be found at:

Our final luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd. We could still use a few more volunteers to bring dessert and serve. Please sign up if you can help!

STAAR Testing is right around the corner and we can't pull it off without your help to make sure our students have a quiet and calm testing environment. We need your help to monitor the halls on April 9-11, May 6, May 13-16.

This is a super easy but very important job, and it's a great way to help make sure testing days go as smoothly as possible for our kids and teachers. Your job will be to ensure that only one student is in the rest room at a time during breaks, and that students waiting in line do not talk. Just check in with the front desk when you arrive and you'll be assigned to a hallway to monitor. There will be a desk where you can sit, so bring your laptop, a book or just enjoy some quiet time!

We have critical 2019-2020 Executive Board Positions and Committee Chairs to fill before we break for summer. Please see the following list of openings. Feel free to reach out to either of us to discuss details of any position. Some are ongoing opportunities, some are one-time commitments. All of them are a huge part of what makes WRMS a great place to grow and learn for our kids!
