MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DIANNE CARTER

Our apologies for the newsletter going out so late as we have been experiencing some technical difficulties with the software.

Happy Friday, Wildcat Families!

It has been another great week to be a Wildcat! Our track teams are in full swing. Our fine arts groups are getting ready for contests/concerts. AND… We had a few WRMS participate in the Austin Regional Science Fair - one advanced to State! We also had a group of WRMS kids participate in Destination Imagination Competition - I'm pretty sure they got tired of calling WRMS at the awards ceremony! I was also able to get into several classrooms this week for some formal observations. Just yesterday I learned the quadratic equation to the tune of Frere Jacques, and I watched some of our 6th graders discover the formula for the area of a circle. I LOVE that they DISCOVERED it!!!

Just a few info items this week:

  • LLS Campaign Success!!! - The final Leukemia and Lymphoma Society total is in and in 3 weeks, West Ridge Middle School was able to raise over $36k!!! We beat our goal by over $11,000 and beat our total last year by $21,000! This just shows that when a community works together, anything is possible!! Thank you to everyone who participated and donated in this fundraiser; you have each made a difference in the lives of individuals suffering from blood cancers.

  • Hidden Disabilities - On our Early Release Day, we were lucky enough to participate in a training by two of our teachers on the topic of Hidden Disabilities. We have some students with disabilities or challenges that we can see. We also have Wildcats with challenges like anxiety, ADHD, depression, learning disabilities, etc. For us to do our best job taking care of our kids, we have to be aware of the challenges that we are helping them overcome. Click THIS LINK if you are interested in a few websites that share a little more information.

I believe that is about all for this week. I hope you are all able to get some rest and have some quality family time this weekend.

Enjoy!

Hopefully, this will always be a fond memory of their time at WRMS. A special thanks to Julie Goel, Beth Utley and Bibi Maddox for co-chairing the event and helping it all come together so beautifully.
