MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DIANNE CARTER

Hello, Wildcat Families!

I hope you have all dried out a little by enjoying some of these gorgeous days.  Now is when I typically start sharing about my little moments of joy from the week - usually moments from classrooms, events, or just walking around.  I hate to say that so far this week I have allowed myself to be stuck in the office or in meetings WAY too much. I'll fix that next week. So… My material is slightly limited this week.  But… One of the most entertaining moments this week was probably our Student Support Team (SST) meeting on Wednesday. This is a group of staff that gather at least every other week (working behind the scenes) to make a plan to support our kids who are struggling.  We had a very focused, sometimes heavy, and serious meeting - while all in costume. It was pretty spectacular! Our kids and staff were pretty amazing as well - tons of super creative creatures and things!

Now for a few info items:

  • I am excited to share that today we learned that West Ridge MS has been selected as an Apple Distinguished School for 2018 - 2021!  A huge shout out goes to Fred Benitez for working hard to complete the application. That process was intense. More to come about exactly what this means!
  • Congrats to our Band Program!  48 of our WRMS Band Members made the District Band last weekend - thanks to hours and hours of dedication and hard work!
  • Lockdown Drill - We have a lockdown drill to practice the procedure scheduled for next Tuesday (11/6).  Students will be reminded of all emergency procedures on Monday. If you have any questions, please let me know.
  • This week we wrapped up the football and volleyball seasons and kicked off basketball tryouts!  Here we go into the next season!

I believe that is all for this Thursday.  Don't forget that our clocks change this weekend.  We get a weekend that is one hour longer! I hope all of your families are able to make the best of it!

Enjoy!

Now that Halloween is in the books, it's time to start thinking about Thanksgiving! We are all thankful for the teachers and staff here at WRMS. Let's show it with pie! Our goal is to provide a pie to every staff member. Having one less thing to worry about over the busy holiday will allow them more time to spend with friends and family.

Teaching our youth resilience can be equated to the metaphor of a tree. Trees need things from their environment to grow healthy and strong just as our youth depend on their environment to develop and mature. Self-Awareness makes it possible for teens to make decisions, plan for the future and understand their own emotions...

In October, the Board heard reports on several topics including an update on the Digital Learning Task Force, the selection of the Envision Eanes committee, the review of potential bond category #2 (energy efficiency & conservation) and an update on the Special Education initiative. You will notice there are numerous opportunities for discussion and involvement; please participate as you are able.
