Hello, WRMS Families!!!

I hope none of you have floated away.  I think most of us here at WRMS are lucky enough to have avoided being affected by the flooding so far and hope that continues to be true.  I am thankful. I am also blessed to get to work in a place where I have colleagues that I get to laugh with every day. We are fortunate that we have so many moments that bring us joy.  The most significant moment recently was last Friday. WRMS knows how to do a pretty awesome pep rally! Our kids and faculty are impressive and hilarious! There was plenty of spirit and  laughter!!!

Now for some information items:

  • KEEP SECRET FROM YOUR KIDS - Our 8th grade US History classes will be participating in a lesson about the Stamp Act next Tuesday.  As a part of the activity, they will receive a letter from me telling them that they will need to start paying for paper for each class.  The way that it is framed will most likely really frustrate some of them, and it will also result in a pretty official looking letter from me possibly floating around out there.  So...three things… First, please see what they thought of the lesson next Tuesday evening - the discussion should be entertaining. Second, if you see a letter from me stating that each sheet of paper used will start to cost 50 cents, don't be alarmed.  It's not really true. :-) Finally, whatever you do, don't give it away so that they get the full experience!

  • Let's BEAT HCMS!!!  Calling all Wildcat families to remember to go to THIS LINK to make a donation that is meaningful to your family to the EEF.  The race is on between campuses. Right now 14% of WRMS families have contributed, and only 10% of HCMS have made a donation.  So… LET'S STAY IN THE LEAD AND BLOW THEM AWAY!!! Remember...EEF helps fund about 50 teachers each year district-wide, and we would have 6 fewer staff members here at WRMS without your support.  No donation is too small and any amount is appreciated. Thank you...

  • Empowered Women at Westlake Events - Empowered women empower women.  Check out THIS LINK to learn how to support Westlake Women's Athletics in a whole new way!

  • Author Visit - From our fabulous librarian, Ms. Martinez: "We were so lucky to have the author of Right Hook of Devin Velma, Jake Burt, visit with our sixth graders this week. He talked to the kids about how he writes his books and just how long it takes to get a book published. BookPeople continues to provide opportunities for author visits to our schools free of charge and there are still some signed copies of Jake's books for sale in the library!"  Click THIS LINK if you want a copy.  Thank you to Book People!!!

I believe that is all for now.  I hope you are all able to get some rest this weekend.  Between athletics and fine arts, next week is packed with activities!  Stay warm and dry and...
