CONGRATULATIONS, WRMS EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR...

JULIE MOORE!!!!

MESSAGE FROM INTERIM PRINCIPAL ROBIN LOWE

Image

Hi Parents,

Are you ready for our last cold front tonight? Can you believe the highs are in the low 50s tomorrow? Wow - hard to believe it is April. At least it's not freezing and my tomato plants are safe!

From time to time I talk to you about concerns I have about things going on around the campus. Today I want to let you know how proud I am of our kids. I often have other adults lament the state of kids today, worried about our next generation, but I can tell you - I have no worries.

Our students, your children, are some of the best kids I have had the privilege to work with. Do they have selective listening? Of course - they are tweenagers! Can they be a pill sometimes? Of course - they are tweenagers! Ever wonder if they know how to pick up after themselves? Of course - they are tweenagers! But more than that - they are kind; they are compassionate; they are eager; they are motivated; they are our future and it is in very good hands.

Thank you for being there for your children - for raising them to be respectful and positive citizens of our world.

Have a wonderful weekend - stay warm on Saturday!

Robin

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is just around the corner from May 1-4!

We have lots of fun planned for that week.  One treat is each staff member will receive a $25 gift card as a token of our appreciation for their hard work. That's where you come in! While you can certainly drop off a gift card at the front desk, you can also buy them on the website this year.

Click below to purchase a gift card and make sure our teachers know how much we love them!

Got A/V knowledge? We are looking for a parent who has expertise in audio-visual systems who can help us assess our current A/V in the cafeteria and gym.

If this is in your skill set, we'd love to hear from you so we may talk further!

RISING 8th GRADERS: IPC TESTING

Dear Parents,

If your student meets the math requirements of concurrent enrollment or prior completion of Algebra I, and is interested in taking 8th grade Pre-AP Integrated Physics & Chemistry (IPC), then please sign your student up for the IPC Screener Assessment through the google form below by April 13th.

Based upon the results of this assessment, students and parents will be notified of their science placement in late May via an email through Skyward.

This assessment will be given during school on April 24th from 2:15-4:15pm. Please note that this is an Early Release Day for all students. The exam will be administered in the cafeteria. Students should report directly to the cafeteria when school is dismissed.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Image

Tue Apr 10, 2018 – Thu May 17, 2018
STAAR testing is sneaking up on us again! And we can't pull it off without your help to make sure our students have a quiet and calm testing environment.

We need your help to monitor the halls on April 10th-12th, May 7th, and May 14th-17th! This is a SUPER easy but very important job, and it's a great way to help make sure that these big (and stressful) days go as smoothly as possible for our kids and teachers.

Your job will be to ensure that only one student is in the rest room at a time and that students waiting in line do not talk. Just check in with the front desk when you arrive and you'll be assigned to a hallway to monitor. There will be a desk where you can sit, so bring your laptop, a book, or just enjoy some quiet time!

DISTRICT NEWS

One way to support your teen in growing into a successful adult is to teach responsible decision making.

Social-Awareness and caring for others is the EISD SEL focus for the third nine weeks. Empathy is being able to understand and value someone else's perspective and having compassion for others even when they are different from ourselves.

WHS HYLINE -  ZENITH

Westlake Hyline presents "Zenith 2018: Quoted"

April 19, 20 & 21, WHS Performing Arts Center

Tickets on sale now at www.whszenith.com

You've seen them on the field at Chapparal Stadium, now come see them on stage!  The Westlake Hyline dance team presents their annual spring show, Zenith, on April 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 at the WHS Performing Arts Center.   This year's theme, "Quoted," was chosen because of the many ways dance can inspire, uplift and communicate in the way some of the most often-quoted words do, sometimes even more powerfully.

The team, supported by the highly-acclaimed production talents of the WHS Technical Entertainment Crew (TEC), will perform a wide range of fresh, fun choreography: lyrical, hip-hop, modern, jazz and tap, in addition to their award-winning competition pieces and the beloved "Bob & Susie" dance featuring team fathers!

Hyline is also proud to welcome to the stage the Star Steppers, the Dance Department Classes, the Madrigals, vocal and instrumental soloists, a high-tech light show, Cheer and the can't-miss "Gyline" to showcase the many performance talents that thrive at Westlake High School.
