West Ridge Reflections February 1, 2018 West Ridge Middle School We love & appreciate you, WRMS Counselors! (Christy Catalano, Jamie McKenney, Kiran Avasthi) MESSAGE FROM INTERIM PRINCIPAL ROBIN LOWE Good afternoon parents,
Next week is National Counselors Week and I want to take this opportunity to highlight what our counselors do on our campus. School counselors are a special breed of cat! They do just about everything on campus. They have lunch duty and after-school duty. They coordinate and plan for all course selection and scheduling. They monitor and take care of our 504 plans. They sit in on conferences with teachers and parents and students. They monitor the social health of our campus with students and staff. They conduct small groups with students, which may include anger management, loss of a parent, etc. They monitor grades and meet with students to help them with organization and self-advocacy. They work with students with ongoing social and emotional concerns. They assist students and staff in crisis. They spend countless hours on the phone and email with you, our parents, trying to work out everything from scheduling issues to student friendship concerns. And this just scratches the surface! When you contact your child's grade level counselor, please know that their day is never the same and they may be moving from one crisis with one student to another. But never fear, that will not stop them from giving their full attention to you and your child. When your child needs a counselor, everything else is dropped so they can ensure your child receives the care and support they need. In short, they are absolutely amazing because in all of this, their primary focus is on our students. So, take a minute to thank our counselors for the vital role they play on our campus. Have a wonderful weekend! Robin GRADE LEVEL TRANSITION INFO
