MESSAGE FROM INTERIM PRINCIPAL ROBIN LOWE

Hi Parents,

I certainly hope you are having a great week - remember tomorrow is Friday and you get to take a break from the work week (hopefully!).

I want to share with you a podcast that I ran across on the Mind/Shift twitter feed I follow. It is by Julie Lythcott-Haims who is the author of How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success. Julie was the Dean of Freshman at Stanford University for 10 years and her insights were gained during her time as dean.

In the podcast she discusses the importance of ensuring that our children are equipped with self-efficacy skills and that overparenting can inhibit that skill development. I encourage you to listen to the podcast (or read the transcript from an earlier podcast) and have discussions with your parenting partner about ways to balance between being over involved and under involved, neither of which is ideal.

Parenting is so hard - especially when your children enter into adolescence. This is one of the hardest jobs you will ever do, but it is also the most rewarding job you'll ever do! Hang in there - you AND your kids are going to be just fine!

WRMS NO-HASSLE FUNDRAISER

Thank you to all who have responded to our WRMS No-Hassle Fundraiser. We are currently at 40% participation…that's 6% more than last week! Thanks to your generous support we will be able to cover our basic expenses and fund some special projects that we have designated for the year.
