Empowering Your Daughter: A Workshop for Parents

posted Oct 2, 2012, 2:15 PM by wrms web
by Barb Steinberg, LMSW
Girls today feel pressure to be “perfect” (straight A’s, a super athlete and supermodel
beautiful). These pressures are damaging. An empowered girl is protected from these
pressures for a lifetime. This workshop will enable parents and caregivers to:

● Clearly understand empowerment and self-esteem
● Understand the societal causes of diminished empowerment in young girls
● Learn the consequences of girls giving up their power
● Discover the top ten ways to empower your daughter, improve her sense-of-self and
help her to make positive choices

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 10th; 11:30am-12:30pm
Location: West Ridge Middle School - Room TBA
Cost: Free and open to the public

“Barb’s workshops are topical, relevant to today’s families and delivered in a conversational,
accessible, yet informative way. Her expertise comes from a blend of research, experience
and intuition making her a great resource for girls and parents. I’ve attended several of her
workshops, and every time I find the 2 hours to be so well-spent and always come away
with specific things to do and say in those instances when I feel ‘stuck’ or at a loss for words
with one of my daughters. I also really appreciate the way Barb understands and honors
everyone’s perspective in the family, sharing insights into our children that we might not
remember/see otherwise.”
- Bev, mother of a 14-year-old and 20-year-old
